Paper-Molded Compact for Eyeshadow Palettes & Pressed Powder

Sustainable appeal through paper and pulp, without petroleum-derived plastic.

Project Overview

PROJECT
“No plastic — but the lid still has to lock shut.”

A plastic-free compact that still locks securely was the brief. Packtoss answered with recyclable card stock bonded to a molded pulp shell, its latch formed entirely from paper.

The Customer’s Challenge

CHALLENGE
  • Switch from plastic to paper — without losing the point.
  • The lid still needs a proper, secure latch.
  • Something light and affordable enough for gifts and giveaways.

Packtoss’s Proposal

SOLUTION
The answer: a latch molded entirely out of paper.

The latch that locks the lid is molded as one piece — no plastic parts at all. A layer of recyclable card stock on the back allows fine offset printing too.

RESULT

This design led to the following results.

  • Cut plastic use while reinforcing a sustainable brand image
  • A secure latch, achieved without plastic
  • Offset printing opens up more design freedom
  • A light, affordable option for gifts and giveaways

Key Points of This Case

Undercut Shapes Through Pulp Injection Molding

Complex shapes that are difficult with ordinary paper molding, such as a latch that locks when the lid closes, can be molded as a single piece without plastic parts.

Free Decoration Through Offset Printing

By laminating recyclable card paper onto the back of the molded piece, brand logos and graphics can be beautifully printed, increasing decorative freedom.

Ideal for Sustainable Novelties and Small Gifts

This plastic-free, lightweight, and environmentally conscious design is a structure that is easy to develop into novelties and promotional gifts as well. It can also be combined with pulp mold, and can be widely applied not only to palettes and powders but also to lock-type compacts for lip products and skincare products.
